Learning PID values using Simulated Annealing
This is a robot that I built and used for one of my classes. (The assignment was actually to simulate a robot, but I wanted to build a real one.) It initially steers using an untuned PID controller that sort of works and uses a method called simulated annealing to learn better values for the PID controller. If you are interested, my project page is here: code.google.com There are other projects located there that I did for the class and I don’t have much general information up there about this robot yet but will add some soon. If you are interested in seeing the code, here’s a link to the code for the robot: code.google.com The code needs to be cleaned up, commented code deleted, duplicate header files deleted etc… but it works. Again, I’ll post more pictures, parts list, electrical diagram, and anything else to the project page anyone is interested in at a later date. this is me on april fools day annealing copper with my butane pencil torch. I got this pencil torch at harbor freight on south lamar in Austin, Texas. I got the butane at walgreens. Annealing colorizes the copper and softens it so it is easy to hammer and form. If you look closely at the video you can see faces and other shapes that look like something in the real world. At one time a hand mysteriously emerged. I like to think of this particular video as my way of painting again but without a brush. I like holding the torch at different distances to get the colors I like. It is a really satisfying way of making art. I may do it all over again tomorrow because I love these colors I get!!
